Promising and outspoken lawyer from East Jaintia Hills District dies in a road mishap
In a tragic mishap, Meghalaya lost a promising and outspoken lawyer and social activist Kynjaimon Amse in a road accident on the intervening night of Thursday/Friday in Khliehriat, the district headquarters of East Jaintia Hills District.
The details of the accident are yet to be known till the filing of this report.
Coincidentally a week before the tragic incident, Kynjaimon Amse filed a complaint to the JHADC against the issuance of No Objection Certificate to M/s Meghatop Cement Private Limited in Wahiajer Village Narpuh for setting up a cement plant in Wahiajer Village, Narpuh Elaka without the consent of the Dorbar Elaka Narpuh and threatened to drag the JHADC to court if the NOC was not terminated.
In his initial days in 2017, Kynjaimon voiced for the cause of the people living in Huroi, Hingaria and other villages along Indo-Bangladesh as there was no road connectivity, no health facilities, no mobile phone tower or no mobile phone coverage amongst others.
Kynjaimon Amse dragged the Union of India and the National Highway Authority of India to the High Court of Meghalaya for the pathetic road conditions from Ratacherra to Lumshnong under National Highway 6 along East Jaintia Hills District.
The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in February 2023 empanelled Kynjaimon Amse, lawyer to act as Legal Aid Counsels, for East Jaintia Hills District or any special case, if allotted outside their jurisdiction.
Kynjaimon Amse was born on 20 January 1994 and hailed from Umkiang village under Lumshnong C&RD Block, East Jaintia Hills District and till his death he was the assistant headman of Umkiang village.
Kynjaimon completed his law degree from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, Punjab after he passed out his higher secondary education from St. Edmund’s College, Higher Secondary Section.
