    The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District in an order issued today has banned inter-state, inter-district movement of pigs.

    The order was issued in view of the death of Pigs at Nongtalang, Muktapur, Lamin and Shnongpdeng villages under West Jaintia Hills District due to suspected cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) and in order to prevent the spread of this highly contagious disease to other villages.

    “Transportation of pigs from the above mentioned villages to other villages and movement of pigs into the above mentioned villages hereby stopped until further orders,” the order said.

    The Deputy Commissioner also informed that the District Animal Husbandary  & Veterinary Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai are to create public awareness, disinfection of pig shed equipment, the burial of pigs as per protocol.

    This order shall take immediate effect until further Orders.
