    SHILLONG: The 3rd Invitational Basketball Tournament for U- 19 organised by Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) kick off today at St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School basketball court, Mawngap.

    The tournament was inaugurated by D L Warjri, Hony. Secretary YMCA who in his speech reminded the players on the game of basketball whose origin was associated with the international YMCA itself and highlighted the need to inculcate the spirit of sports in rural areas. Other dignitaries were J Choudhary, Regional Secretary of YMCA, M Tariang, Vice President YMCA,  S Thabah, Joint Secretary YMCA.

    There were 6 schools participating in the said tournament. The first game was played between host St. Paul School and Raid Sadew School where St. Paul won convincingly by a margin of 5 baskets. In the second match, Pentacost School defeated Rev. Thomas School by identical margin. The tournament is played on a knock out basis.
