Yatra called off annual pilgrimage to Mawjymbuin Cave
The Yatra Committee on Wednesday called off the decision for conducting an annual pilgrimage in Mawjymbuin Cave located in Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills District.
The decision was convened by the Advocates representing the Yatra Committee during the hearing of WP(C) 275 of 2024 in the High Court of Meghalaya.
The Court accepted the decision of the Yatra Committee and also agreed on the need for constituting a committee for safeguarding and maintaining the Mawjymbuin Cave, according to VG K Kynta the advocate representing the Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram.
Notably the High Court of Meghalaya on 8th of this month asked the Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram (DSM) to resolve the issue of granting No Objection Certificate (NOC) for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Krem Mawjymbuin, Mawsynram.
The direction was passed during the hearing of the WP(C) No. 275 of 2024 filed the by Yatra Committee against the State of Meghalaya and eight other respondents after the Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram denied to issue NOC for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Mawjymbuin. The Court also listed the next hearing of the case on the 14th of this month.
