    Doctors wore a smile on their faces after helping a woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, deliver twins at Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong, West Jaintia Hills District.

    The woman who had comorbidities tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. She was admitted in Jowai Civil Hospital on Sunday last at around 4 Am and delivered twins.

    Speaking to syllad.com, Dr Rita Pohrmen, Medical Superintendent of Jowai Civil Hospital, said, “The team headed by gynaecologist performed a normal delivery. She gave birth to twins both are female.”

    “This is the first case in the state where a COVID-19 patient gave birth to twins. The mother and infants are healthy,” stated Dr Pohrmen.

    Dr Pohrmen informed that the newborns and other patients who were at the labour room and maternity ward were shifted to MCH hospital, Jowai and will also have to be tested for coronavirus as per protocols. While the doctor and staff are under quarantine.

    Jowai Civil Hospital Ialong services was suspended, maternity ward and labour room are closed for sanitization. The indoor patient care services, however, will remain operational.
