SHILLONG: Former KHADC Chief PN Syiem today said winning or losing the elections will depend on the wisdom of the people.

Syiem, a sitting MDC from Mawsynram, recently joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) after he quit the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), a party which he floated before the Assembly elections held last year.

However, he has decided to contest the upcoming district council polls from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkrah constituency, which is presently represented by PDF sitting MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit, after he lost the Mawsynram MLA seat.

Syiem had also unsuccessfully contested the Ranikor bye-election.

“I had been the Chief Executive Member of the KHADC and had taken up various issues affecting the indigenous people. I believe that the people understand and still want me to continue my contributions,” Syiem told reporters here on Thursday.

“I will not talk ill against anybody as I have decided to leave it to the wisdom of the people,” he said.

On his switching from one party to another, the former KHADC chief however said his decision was not without any reason.

“I had fought and resigned from the Congress to protect the interest of the indigenous community,” he said adding “I had to leave the PDF because they have sidelined me as the founder of the party after I lost the MLA elections.”

“Therefore I decided that it is better for me to be with a party which is giving hope to the people of the North East region. I should be in a party which can give service to the people,” Syiem said.

With regards to his repeated defeats in the two elections, Syiem however said that he is not quitter and always believe that “failure is the key to success”.
