Widening of Shillong-Dawki-Tamabil road project to start this year: Tynsong
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong said the government is hoping that the works for widening of the 95 kilometres Shillong to Dawki-Tamabil road will start this year.
Tynsong told reporters on Monday that the assessment for land acquisition and payment of compensation has been completed.
He said on completion of the process, the district collectors of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills will now publish the notification for the final award (under section 23) in the official gazette.
According to him, the process will take another one month to complete in case there are claims and objections (from the land owners).
After this, the JICA will be requested to sanction the money to the deputy commissioners of the two districts for disbursement of the land compensation, he further added.
Asked, the deputy chief minister said the DCs will then have to handover the land for the widening of the road. “We would like to see that the works should start within this year itself,” he said.
The road project will be funded by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at an estimated cost of Rs 1187.5 crore. Including land acquisition the total project cost was estimated at Rs 1377.5 crore.
The ambitious project is aimed at constructing a four-lane road from Umshyrpi to 7th Mile, Upper Shillong and from there a two-lane road to Dawki-Tamabil.
The project is divided into four packages which include Nongpdeng to Tamabil, Nongpdeng to Pynursla, Laitlyngkot Mylliem and Umshyrpi which will go through the defence land.
