VPP urges Govt to expand Meghalaya House, Vellore
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has urged the State government to expand the Meghalaya House, Vellore in order to provide affordable accommodation to people, who are travelling to Vellore for seeking medical treatment.
In a letter to GAD Minister Rakkam A Sangma, VPP general secretary Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon said Meghalaya House, Vellore has been a great blessing to the people of the state particularly those seeking medical and health care services from hospitals in Vellore.
The number of patients travelling to Vellore from the state is increasing with each passing day, however, due to the limitation of rooms, many patients and the attendants are left in great distress.
A good number of patients are those who come from economically hard pressed backgrounds and since Vellore is a place where medical and health care are excellent and affordable. However, many are in a dilemma when it comes to accommodation, which is expensive, and many a time, patients have to forgo their full course of treatment because of accommodation, which is beyond their means and capacity.
“The officials of Meghalaya House, Vellore in spite of their best efforts face a problem of not being able to provide accommodation to such needy persons in Meghalaya House. In the light of the above stated facts, the party urge you, to kindly take immediate and necessary steps to extent and expand the Meghalaya House, Vellore so that our people can get not just the best of medical and health care services but also affordable accommodation,” Syngkon stated in the letter.
