  • VPP achieved feat as State Party within 16 months of formation

    Within sixteen months of its formation and with just one Assembly Election, the Voice of People Party or the VPP Meghalaya has been accorded recognition as a State Party by the Election Commission of India.

    In a letter to the President, Voice of the People Party, the Commission informed on the basis of review of poll performance of VPP, a registered un-recognized party in the 2023 MLA Election, it is seen that the said ‘VPP’, has fulfilled the conditions laid down in Para 6A of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, for recognition as a State Party in the State of Meghalaya.

    Accordingly, the Commission has granted recognition to the ‘VPP’ as a State Party in the State of Meghalaya under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, the letter said.

    The Commission said, “it is advised to propose a symbol preference from the free symbol list available on the Commission’s website or propose three new symbols (along with design and drawing of the symbol) for the consideration of the Commission.”

    They also informed that free symbol list is available at the following path on the Commission’s website: –
    https://eci.gov.in/files/file/14768-list-of-free-symbols-with-images-as-on-23rd-january-2023/ Notification in this regard will be issued in due course.

    The VPP was formed in November 2021 and the party won four seats out of the 60 seats in the recent MLA Election.
