    In awake of the recent double murders of two adolescent girls within a period of 90 days, the headmen of East Jaintia Hills District reiterated their demand for immediate upgradation of Lad Rymbai Outpost to a Police Station failing which they will agitate till their legitimate demand are fulfilled by the Meghalaya Government.

    The headman under the platform of the Synjuk Ki Waheh Chnong East Jaintia Hills lamented that due to the lack of manpower at the Lad Rymbai Police Outpost within its jurisdiction could not react promptly to policing duties.

    “There were two incidents in the past two years that occurred in the past few years. The Mookhep firing incident in 2014 where two civilians were killed due to police firing and the murderous attack on civil society women organisation president Agnes Kharshiing at Tuber Shohshrieh on November 2018,” the memo read.

    The traditional heads also mentioned that there are 55 villages under the outpost and over 30,000 population. Police personnel of Ladrymbai with inadequate forces they have to perform law and order duties, management of traffic flow along the National Highway 6 and policing duties.

    They also apprised the SP that on 5th October 2020 regarding the demand to upgrade the Police Outpost to the police station which the traditional heads of East Jaintia Hills District unanimously decided to demand from the government for upgradation of the outpost.
