UP based company to construct new state Assembly building
SHILLONG: The High Power Committee of the State Assembly on Thursday finalised its decision to hand over the construction of the new Assembly building to an Uttar Pradesh based company.
“We have cleared the name of the contractor Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd which is PSU of the Uttar Pradesh government to implement the project,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after the meeting of the HPC held here.
“We are happy that a long pending issue, which has been taking a lot of time has finally been finalised and hopefully the work for construction should start very soon,” he said.
The meeting chaired by the Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy was also attended by the Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, cabinet ministers, MLAs and others.
The chief minister also informed that the government is confident that it will be able to complete the work within the stipulated time of 36 months.
Asked, Conrad said the project cost was estimated at Rs 145 crore but the quotation that came in from this company is amounting to Rs 127 crore which is very much within the sanction amount.
The new Assembly building will be constructed at an 80 acres land at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township.
