The Shillong Science Centre (SCC) of Nehu Campus, an institution dedicated to explore and facilitate learning in science, offers a variety of Science Communication activities such as Scientific Exhibits, Galleries, a Science Park, a Digital Planetarium and an Innovation Hub. Recently, it has announced the launch of a new initiative titled “Pulse: Promoting Understanding and Learning in Science education”.

This initiative aims to extend Science and Technology outreach to all schools situated in remote and far-flung areas of the state. It will also provide students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on science activities, fostering a love for learning and also serves as a way to encourage them to consider science and technology as a potential career path.

The Science Centre offers a learning space for students where they can engage with basic principles of science and conduct hands-on experiments in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Space Science, and Astronomy. They will also be provided with an orientation programme and a guided tour of each exhibit accompanied by questionnaire, a free Planetarium Show, and other related science activities.

The Centre will sponsor two schools per week, providing accommodation, travel allowances, and meals. It invites schools from all blocks and districts of the state to participate, with maximum of 30 students or minimum of 20 students per session.

The Shillong Science Centre also invites general visits at Rs. 20 per students and Rs. 30 per adults. It allows booking of birthday celebration at Rs. 5000 per day. To participate for Science Days/Event celebration, registration and payment can be done online on the centre’s website.

The centre will be open on every Sunday from April 1 onwards but it will be closed on every Monday of the week.

Interested schools are requested to register through the centre’s website at www.shillongsciencecentre.org/node/add/booking
