UDP to finalize candidate for Shella seat tomorrow
SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party is all set to finalise the candidature of late Dr Donkupar Roy’s son for the upcoming bye-election to the Shella Assembly seat.
The collective decision on the candidate will be taken at the general meeting of the UDP Shella Circle to be held at Dr Roy’s residence at Sohra tomorrow.
The seat fell vacant following the death of former UDP chief Dr Donkupar Roy, who was consecutively elected for seven times and became the longest serving legislator of the constituency, on July 28.
Leaders of the Shella Circle have decided to propose that Dr Roy’s son Balajied Kupar Synrem to be the candidate for the Shella by poll, after the family had given the green signal. According to them, the decision will be finalized at the general meeting on Thursday.
Earlier, the state leadership in a recently held central executive committee meeting had decided to endorse whatever decision is being taken by the Shella Circle.
Asked, a UDP leader said that the Shella Circle will then put up its proposal to the district committee which will accordingly submit its report and recommendation to the State Election Committee for its approval.
