UDP, HSPDP decides to strengthen spirit of regionalism by reconstituting the RDA
The United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday decided to strengthen the ‘spirit of regionalism’ through the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA).
“We have unanimously decided to strengthen the spirit of regionalism through the RDA,” UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh told reporters after a meeting of the two political parties. HSPDP president KP Pangniang was also present.
He said that the leader of both the regional political parties have asserted the need to work together on various issues concerning the state.
Lyngdoh informed that the two political parties will again meet to elect the new members of the RDA.
When asked, the UDP chief said that though the UDP and HSPDP had decided not to have a pre-poll alliance during the last 2023 Assembly elections but “we have an understanding that we will definitely have a post-poll alliance”.
“Therefore, the two political parties will be working together and take collective stand on different issues as an RDA,” he added.
The UDP has 12 MLAs while the HSPDP has 2 MLAs in the 60-member House.
