UDA in KHADC to meet again next week
SHILLONG: Members of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) are still undecided on whether to continue extending support to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The UDA meeting convened by the KHADC Chief Teinwell Dkhar on Friday was attended by all the members of the alliance including the six MDCs from the PDA who had earlier withdrawn support.
However, the meeting continue to remain inconclusive as no decision could be taken. “We have decided to meet again after a week,” Dkhar told reporters. The CEM also refused to disclose as to what had transpired during the meeting.
The UDA meeting was held following the decision of six PDA members who are mostly from the National People’s Party (NPP) to withdraw support to the Dkhar-led executive committee.
They include NPP MDCs Victor Ranee, Mitchell Wankhar and NPP MDC Gigur Myrthong, PDF member Macdalyn Mawlong and 2 independents Latiplang Kharkongor and Lambor Malngiang.
The recent decision of the executive committee to allot only Rs 50 lakh for each MDC from the Rs 52 crore special assistance grant sanctioned by the Centre is said to be main reason that led to the clash within the alliance.
Sources however informed that the six MDCs are yet to decide on whether to continue supporting the UDA.
The ruling UDA is comprises of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) which include seven UDP and two Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), which is having seven NPP, one PDF and two Independents.
