Truck drivers form association to fight extortion by police in Meghalaya
Peeved with the broad daylight extortion by police personnel throughout the National Highway in the State of Meghalaya, the truck drivers hailing from West Jaintia Hills District resolved to work together under one umbrella for demanding stern action from the Meghalaya Government against the erring police personnel.
They also resolved to form the first exclusive body of truck drivers of West Jaintia Hills and christened it as Driver Trucks Association at a meeting held in Hynniew Mer, West Jaintia Hills District on the afternoon of Thursday.
The meeting elected the following office bearers and they are President-Thikmiki Iakai, Vice President-Ngaitmon Langbang, General Secretary-Wanmi Passah and Publicity Secretary- Heipormi Suting besides electing FKJGP Jaintia Hills Zone President Tuesday Lytep as chief adviser and Wanbun Dkhar also as their advisor.
They felt the need to form the association as together they will be able to fight the menace of paying money to police personnel for petty or no reasons and to instill a spirit of closeness and cooperation amongst the truck drivers of the region.
