TMC candidate asks NPP to prepare to get ousted from Govt
TMC candidate from East Shillong Ajoy Nongrum on Thursday asked the National People’s Party (NPP) to prepare to get ousted from the government.
“I am telling the NPP to just be prepared to be ousted from the government. The people of the state have already decided to oust this government,” Nongrum told reporters.
Referring to chief minister Conrad K Sangma’s claim that the NPP will be voted back to power, the TMC leader said, “From where does he get the idea that they will again form the government as throughout the state the people are confident that there will be a change.”
“Let him (CM) claim but he will be surprised with what the people of the state want. The people of the state want a change. What people in the street now are saying is we want a change…for the betterment of the society, a better government, better machinery that will do well to the people.”
He said that the NPP-led MDA government has failed on all fronts and this has angered the people of the state to a great extent.
“The people are angry against this government as they have failed on each and every front – from the health sector, education sector, sports sector and others.”
Nongrum also ridiculed the statement of the chief minister when he claimed that there is no opposition party in the state and said, “This is childish talk. I think they are going mad because the NPP is frustrated that the people’s choice is not them but the TMC. They have already said we want change and they are not going back to the Congress but they want a party which can give a stable governance.”
Stating that the prospect of the TMC has improved so much in the state, the candidate from East Shillong said, “Our position is very good in Garo Hills and we will also do very well too here in Khasi-Jaintia Hills as people are saying let us give TMC a chance.”
Meanwhile, Nongrum also slammed the MDA government for mistreating the teachers during its tenure.
“It is very unfortunate for teachers to come to the streets. During our days of students’ life these things never happened. The main reason why these things are happening is because there is no proper policy in this government. Even the policies that exist don’t implement that.
I will tell you, related to my type of work, I have visited a number of interior villages, I have come across some schools where they have barely six to seven students and four teachers. Can you imagine six students with four teachers. What ratio is this? What this government is doing,” he said.
He further questioned the decision of the present government to go for an inauguration spree of different projects before the elections. “What were they doing all these years? They want to hoodwink the public but the public are not fools anymore. Don’t play with the public anymore,” Nongrum said.
