Stop attacking own govt, Sanbor Shullai tells BJP leadership
BJP legislator from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai on Monday asked his party leadership to refrain from attacking the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
Shullai also requested the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma to call a meeting to address and resolve all issues in order to restore the working coordination among the alliance partners.
In a letter to the BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie, the South Shillong legislator said being a partner and attacking its own government questions “our very intent and existence in the government.”
He said it not only affects the smooth functioning of the government but also creates a negative image of the party.
Shullai also wrote that such statements and accusations from the state leadership is not well appreciated by the coalition partners adding such repetitive media statements are only projecting the government, of which we (BJP) are part in poor light.
“I would appeal to all party leaders to bring forward all issues related to the government to the designated platform and to refrain from going public about the issue before it is heard and given a chance for clarification,” he suggested.
“Thus I put my faith and trust in you and request you to exercise restrain from making repetitive press statement which is projecting the government of which we are a part in poor light and rather discussed all issues at appropriate and accepted forum,” he added.
Shullai said that he had also discussed the matter with most of the senior party leaders and members, who were of the opinion that such matters should be discussed at appropriate forums.
He also reminded that a decision was taken during the core committee meeting of the party held on October 2, that henceforth all press statements against the government should made only after taking into confidence both the elected MLAs and through appropriate and accepted forum.
“However, inspite of the decision being taken repetitive press statement is being giving time and again by the state office bearers, which is in violatttion of the resolution adopted during the core committee meet,” the MLA said.
Stating that allegations and counter allegation are part of democratic set up but needs to be done with glaring and substantial evidence, Shullai said the big question however is whether the central leaders are aware of these multiple allegations made by state BJP office bearers.
“If so, then it is imperative that the central leaders should also take the local MLA’s into confidence as they are the elected representatives,” he said adding “For important matters that are not being able to be resolved at state levels, the central leaders and state in charge will have to step in.”
Meanwhile, Shullai said that he would request the CM to call for an all government party meet to address and resolve all issues glaring at us so that the trust and working coordination is restored among all alliance partners.
“The issue of severing ties is not of a major concern but the decision to form the alliance lies with central leaders so the decision to withdraw should also lies with central leaders,” he said.
Reposing faith on the leadership of Conrad K Sangma, Shullai said, “We have always supported the Chief Minister who also happens to be the Chairman of the present day coalition and have put our trust and faith in him and other allies.”
He said the Chief Minister has always supported the BJP, since last two and half years during the time even when there was widespread protest against BJP in the state of Meghalaya.
