State police geared up VDP to check illegal entry of influx as demanded by the HYC
SHILLONG: In order to check the entry of illegal influx to the State, the Meghalaya Police today agreed to sensitize the Village Defense Party (VDP) to be watchful and to help to police in tackling the issue.
This assurance was given by the Director General of Police, Meghalaya in a meeting held with the delegation of HYC Central Body leaders led by its President Robertjune Kharjahrin and General Secretary Roykupar Synrem at Police Headquarter this afternoon.
The HYC leaders submitted a letter to the DGP, Meghalaya where they reminded him that the State of Assam recently has declared the list of the Citizens who are included in the National Register of Citizenship and more than 19 lakh people are excluded from the list.
Stating that the state will face huge demographic problems in the future, HYC said that these people who are excluded from the NRC list may try to take shelter in the state of Meghalaya if steps to check verified and regulate the entry and settlement of outsider is not taken.
The letter read that the HYC exhorted the police department to take effective step to prevent illegal entry and settlement of Foreign national in the state, kindly increases the strength of the police personnel in the Anti-Infiltration Directorate and in all the District of the state and importantly to setup a 24*7 check gate in each and every Road both at the Interstate and international Border of the state.
The HYC suggested to the DGP to instruct to all the Villages Authority and Village Defense Party to be watchful and to prevent entry and settlement of immigrants in their villages and further to order that each and every villages must prepared and submit the register contained the name of all the residents settle in their villages to the Officer in charge of their respective Police station at least twice a year.
