Shullai extends full support to Dr Fenela’s candidature from Shillong LS seat
BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday submitted a letter to the state president Rikman G Momin urging the party to nominate Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait as candidate from Shillong parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Shullai also requested his colleague AL Hek, who is cabinet minister and Pynthorumkhrah legislator, to support Lyngdoh’s candidature besides appealing to former state president Ernest Mawrie to withdraw his candidature and work together with them.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the state president, Shullai said, “I came with the office bearers of the South Shillong mandal to submit a letter to the state president to convey our unanimous decision to support the candidature of Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait. We also urge the party to nominate her as (official) candidate of the party for the Shillong parliamentary seat.”
“Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait is a gold medallist in law. Her strong educational and professional background will also be a striking representation of our matrilineal society. Besides, her clean image and timely intervention on various local issues will help us to ensure a good vote share from rural areas too.”
Shullai also informed that the letter was also submitted to the national vice president In-charge Meghalaya Dr Chuba Ao, national general secretary and coordination of NE states Rituraj Sinha for necessary consideration.
Shullai informed that he is meeting Hek to discuss the matter today.
“I could not meet him (Hek) because he did not come to the Assembly. Just today only I came to know he cannot walk because of nerve problems. I will meet him and talk face to face so that both MLAs will appeal to party high command to nominate Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait as candidate for the Shillong seat,” he said.
“I have also spoken to Ernest Mawrie (requesting him) if he can withdraw (his candidature) so that we will work together,” he said while informing Mawrie however said that he would like to wait for the decision of the party central leadership.
Further, Shullai said that the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills have greatly regretted electing the sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala. “Five years in parliament, Pala was wasting time eating nuts only,” he alleged.
Shullai had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He claimed that union home minister Amit Shah had spoken to him over phone and promised to make him DoNER minister if won the elections in 2019.
“My appeal, therefore, to the people is that they should be farsighted and vote for the BJP candidate. It would be a great blessing if the party gives a ticket to Fenella as she will win and no doubt will get ministership and that time she will bring milk and honey to the state, bring lots of development to generate employment to the people of the state,” he said.
“If the youth wants a job they should vote for the BJP. Give BJP a chance,” he added.
