Shillong’s Eucharistic Procession on November 12
The faithful of the Shillong Archdiocese, Jowai, and Nongstoin Diocese are gearing up for the Annual Eucharistic Procession, which is set to take place on November 12, 2023. This grand religious event will be held at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians in Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
In a statement issued by General Secretary Parish Pastoral Council Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Barnabas Nongbah said, the day will start with the morning prayers at 9.15 am followed by the Holy Mass at 10.00 am, which will be con-celebrated by His Excellency, Most Rev. Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong and the three newly ordained bishops – Most Rev. Wilbert Marwein, Bishop of Nongstoin, Most Rev. Ferdinand Dkhar, Bishop of Jowai and Most Rev. Joachim Walder, Auxiliary Bishop of Aizawl.
In the afternoon, the grand procession will commence at 1:30 PM from Calvary and follow a route through Dhankheti, Shillong Jowai Road, Laitumkhrah Main Road, Don Bosco Square, and return to Calvary.
Parking Arrangements:
To accommodate the large number of attendees, parking arrangements have been made at various locations, including Madan Iew Rynghep, St. Edmund’s College, MIIT Brookdene, St. Margareth’s Convent, St. Mary’s Convent, St. Anthony’s H S School Mini Stadium, Christ King College, Don Bosco Technical School, Parking lot of Loreto School (Hopkinson Road), and Malki Playground.
Vehicles can also park on one side of the road in specified areas to maintain a smooth flow of traffic:
- Barik point leading to Pine mount School and Seventh Set school
- Lower Lachumiere from Horse Shoe building to DIPR
- Treasury Office
- Opposite Additional Secretariat to Barik point
- Behind the Governor’s house
- In front of Don Bosco Hall(Hopkinson Road)
- Jacob’s ladder
- Boyce’s Road – Shillong College -Bajoria School etc.
Traffic volunteers will be present at parking lots to assist in organizing the parking and ensuring a free flow of traffic. Attendees parking on the roadside are requested to park in a single file to avoid disrupting traffic.
The entire length of the road from Dhankheti to Shillong Jowai Road, Laitumkhrah Main Road, Don Bosco Square, and Calvary has been declared a No Parking Zone for the day.
The Dhankheti-Don Bosco Square stretch of the road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:45 AM until the conclusion of the event.
No Entry restrictions will be in place for all vehicles on the Shillong-Jowai Road at Barik Point and Fire Brigade from 12:00 AM to 3:30 PM to facilitate the procession.
Local authorities have declared a no-vending zone along the procession route, including Dhankheti, Shillong Jowai Road, Laitumkhrah Main Road, and Don Bosco Square.
Attendees are urged to maintain cleanliness by using provided dustbins for waste disposal. They are also reminded to follow traffic regulations and drive safely.
