In view of the upcoming festive season, the Shillong Traffic Police or STP on Wednesday urged all motorists in Shillong City to refrain from driving after drinking for their own safety and others as well.

According to SP (City) Vivek Syiem, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) will be conducting vigorous checking drives throughout Shillong City including Bypasses, highways and locality roads with immediate effect.

He also informed that the STP will focus more on the detection of Drunk Driving and Dangerous Driving in addition to other MV Act violations as this is a cause for concern.

The SP (City) warned that anyone found to be driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the permissible limit (30 mg. per 100 ml. of blood) shall be punishable under Section 185 MV Act with a fine of 10,000/- or imprisonment which may extend upto 6 months or with both.
