Shillong College organized voters awareness programme
Keeping in mind the upcoming elections to elect new members to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Department of Political Science, Shillong college organised a Voters Awareness Programme targeting first time voters and young voters of the college on Monday at College Hall.
In her welcome address, College Lecturer VR Solomon highlighted the objective of organising the programme.
College Principal, Dr E Kharkongor exhorted the young voters to actively take part in voting as citizens of the country and for them to understand the importance of their vote and the value their opinion brings to the decision making process.
Speaking as resource person, Sadon KBlah, a social activist, youth leader and Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Seng Khasi College, highlighted the constitutional and ethical aspect of voting.
He stressed on the importance of choosing rationally and wisely and cautioned the students not to be influenced by money power or other influences and not to be swayed by winds of rhetoric and unfulfilled promises.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by A.Marbaniang, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
