Section 144 CrPC violated by Nartiang NPP supporters
Despite the prohibitory order issued by District Administration West Jaintia Hills District, there is still an incident of violation of criminal intimidation and threat with dire consequence and obstruction to electioneering duty by the NPP supporters of 1-Nartiang A/C against two Non-NPP’s polling agents in Maya Club Wahiajer Polling Station on the day of polling.
It may be mentioned on Sunday, the District Magistrate West Jaintia Hills District promulgated Section 144 CrPC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons and carrying of arms, dao and other weapons in the entire district.
The prohibitory order also warned against any threat, criminal intimidation and use of force and any violation of the order will be dealt with severely.
The seriousness of the District Administration with prohibitory order will be reflected if they dare to take action against NPP supporters, who obstructed and intimidated and physically manhandled the two Non NPP polling agents on Monday morning while they are on the way to act polling agents and also cast their votes in Maya Club Polling Station.
The two Non NPP polling agents could reached the Polling Station with police escort after 90 minutes of commencement of polling party. The police escorted the polling agents only after they called for help from the election observers.
Notably, the NPP Nartiang Circle bragged that their candidate will win with landslide margin of 10000 votes and if they are so sure of such a margin then why they resort to threat, intimidation and obstruction of the polling agents.
It may be recalled here that in 2018 Assembly Election during the Congress regime, the district administration stationed sufficient police personnel in the road under Maya Club Wahiajer since campaigning days and till completion of polling as precautionary measures but this year there was no such deployment.
