Scarp tender for construction of JHADC’s Additional Building: BJP MDCs
Peeved with the non-completion of three major projects and non-payment of salaries of staffs by the Executive Committee of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday demanded the immediate scrapping of the tender notice inviting bids for the construction of JHADC’s Additional Office worth Rs. 3.38 crores.
In a letter signed by three BJP MDCs of JHADC namely Lakhon Biam, Dawan Lyngdoh and Krison Langstang to the Secretary, Executive Committee, JHADC, the party demanding clarification over the calling of tender vide Notification No.JHADC/CWD/19/2018/23 dated 11th November 2020 of an approximate value of work of Rs.3,38,65,965/- (Rupees three crores thirty eight lakhs sixty five thousand and nine hundred sixty five) only for the construction of Additional Office building for JHADC, Headquarter, Jowai, including Electrification, Septic tank, Plumbing and Sanitary Fitting.
Lambasting the Executive Committee led by the NPP in JHADC, the BJP MDCs said that the construction of the Iawmusiang Market, Jowai which started in the year 2008 is still incomplete even after the passage of 12 (twelve) years for reasons best known to the Executive Committee.
They further said that the construction of Dorbar Hall /Shopping Complex, New Hill, Jowai, is another project constructed by JHADC, Jowai, is yet to see its completion even after 6 (six) years since the starting of its construction.
The BJP MDCs said that District Council Court building which is on the verge of its completion should have been given importance for its completion and once it is completed, the Judicial Department can be shifted to the new District Council Court Building. This will reduced the congestion in the main Office building of the Council and thus requiring for construction of additional office building at the moment is not needed.
“As a concerned elected Members of JHADC and also as a concerned citizen of the Country, the questions comes to mind, is from where the Fund for the Construction of the Additional Office Building, JHADC, is sanctioned and that too of such huge value,” the letter said.
The BJP MDCs asserted that if it is from the Council Fund, then they demand that the Executive Committee should immediately cancel the tender for the Construction of the Additional Office Building, JHADC at once which is not needed at all in present situation and instead make it a top priority to pay the salary of the staff for all the pending 11 (eleven) months.
