Sanbor Shullai wins the votes cast through postal ballot
JOWAI: Sitting MLA of Shillong South Assembly Constituency and BJP Candidate from 1- Shillong Parliamentary Constiuency Sanbor Shullai was the winner in postal ballot round as he secured the maximum number of votes in comparison to other candidates in the fray.
In 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, there are a total of 1706 voters who casted their votes through postal ballots as they are deputed on election duty in various roles and capacities as to ensure right to adult franchise to all the voters in the parliamentary constituency.
The BJP Candidate won the confidence of 897 voters out of the total 1706 in the postal ballot while Congress Candidate Vincent H Pala bagged a total of 477 votes. But 89 government employees could not decide whom to choose from amongst the candidates thus resulting in their rejection of their voters.
MDA Govt’s consensus candidate from the United Democratic Party Dr. Jemino Mawthoh failed to impress the state government employees as he got only 176 votes.
Strangely, NOTA (or the None of the Above) outplayed the three independent candidates in the postal ballots round as it got 22 votes while Romeo Phira got 15 votes and Samuel Hashah clinched 19 votes with 11 votes going to T H S Bonney.
