Road Blockade in National Highway 6 since 10 am & continuing
Unfulfilled assurances of road repairs and petty excuses of rainy seasons were in abundant so are the deep potholes in the National Highway along East Jaintia Hills District.
Left with no options as they are the regular commuters of the highly deplorable National Highway, the residents of Elaka Narpuh of East Jaintia Hills District came out to the street and halted the movement of vehicles from 10 am of Monday morning and still continuing till the filing of this report.
The protesters, however, did not obstruct the movement of ambulances, security forces and school buses. Due to the impact of the road blockade, hundreds of vehicles are stranded in the National Highway.
The National Highway No 6 is one of the major highways in North Eastern Region as it connects major part of Assam to rest of Assam via Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and parts of Manipur.
The vehicular movements along the National Highway was adversely affected due to the road blockade and it is reliably learnt that the protestors will not backtrack until concrete actions are shown in the ground not just in the table.
More than hundred of people who reside along the area came out to the roads to vent out their anger against the MDA Government.
Led by Daïapherbha Lamare, Robi Suchiang Waheh Shnong Umstain, James Lamare Secretary Donaskur, Bhalang Lamurong Secretary Shnong Dona Umbluh, Francis Lamin ex waheh shnong Umkiang, Saman Phniaw Secretary Shnong Tongseng Narpuh, the protesters blocked the roads at Kuliang village falling under National Highway 6 where major portion of the roads were damaged due to the heavy rainfalls and heavy movement of vehicles.
The local residents have been pleading for immediate repairs of the National Highway but the National Highway Authority of India appeared to be indifferent to their genuine pleas.
Vehicles loaded with essential commodities has been partly hit as they have to stopped along the stretch of National Highway 6.
Daiapherbha Lamare said, “We are peeved with the adamant attitude of NHAI as till date they are not taking any steps to restore the national highway.”
The Road blockade was supported by drivers and pressure groups namely JSM, HITO and JSU.

Road water electricity is the basic right by birth in democracy, you should not have to ask to the government for these things, and if the government fails to provide you the basic things then it’s our responsibility to eliminate such government and bring those who promises us to give these things and more.
