Over 30 patients benefit from Tuberculosis awareness program in Sutnga
In an effort to raise awareness on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA), the District Tuberculosis Officer’s office in Jaintia Hills collaborated with Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, for a special event. They organized a Food Distribution program under the Community Support Scheme for TB Patients at the Sutnga CHC in Sutnga on December 20. Present at the event were District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. E.B.V Laloo, Medical Officer in-charge of Sutnga CHC Dr. R Toi and Kingshok K. Borah, Manager-CSR at Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong.
District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, Dr. E.B.V Laloo in her speech during the program highlighted the several ways and means which patients can practice at home to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis to other family members even as she urged the patients to regularly take their dosage of medicines as instructed by the concerned heath supervisors in the interest of their health and wellbeing. Further, she also dwelt at length on various schemes which provide financial assistance to TB patients during their medication period.
Additionally, she also expressed her sincere gratitude to the staff and the entire administration of Star Cement Limited for sponsoring the food items that are being distributed to the patients and called upon community members to co-operate with ASHAs and the concerned health centres to eliminate this disease from the community.
Meanwhile, Manager-CSR, Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, Kingshok K. Borah spoke on matters relating to TB patients even as he emphasized that Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong is committed to provide all possible assistance to TB patients in East Jaintia Hills District.
Others who spoke during the program include Medical Officer in-charge Sutnga CHC, Dr. R. Toi, Senior Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor (STLS), Watson Siangshai and Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS), Linus Manner.
After the program, package of food items including rice, mustard oil, eggs etc were distributed to more than 30 patients present on the occasion.
