Former Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) legislature party leader Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said the flag of the party will be seen across Meghalaya in the next 45 days.

Addressing the media at the TMC headquarters, Kolkata, Sangma said that he along with the 11 MLAs have taken a collective decision to join AITC knowingfully well the mind of the people especially at the grassroot level.

“(Therefore), in the next 30 to 45 days, people will be seeing the flag of AITC across the state of Meghalaya,” he added.

Claiming to be trendsetters by deciding to move away from the Congress, the former chief minister said that their decision was also based on the aspirations of the Congress karyakartas and the collective desire of the people.

He further predicted that more such moves will be seen across the political spectrum of the country in the coming days.

“What we have decided is definitely a trend setter for what is going to happen across the North East and across the country. You will only be seeing this same trend happening in a number of states from now on,” Sangma stated.

He also asserted, “The collective desire of the people is what we are responding to and in the best interest of the people of this great nation and this great country.”

While the Congress is seeking their disqualification under the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India, Sangma however claimed that the 12 MLAs have the support of the people of Meghalaya because they wanted an alternative.

“The palpable feeling of the hundreds and thousands of Congress Karyakartas and other people who are aligned with the ideology and the principal of this grand old party, who are anxious and seeing no ray of hope, therefore wanted an alternative,” he said.
