Opp Congress rubbishes BJP’s claim of MLAs ready to join the saffron party
SHILLONG: Opposition Congress on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its partners for attempting to disintegrate the party by creating false perception that there is disunity within the Congress.
This came a day after BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek claimed that three Congress MLAs have expressed their interest to join the saffron party.
“These are all rubbished. It is just that they are trying to create perception among the people that the Congress MLAs are not intact,” Congress spokesperson and Rangsakona legislator Zenith Sangma said here.
Maintaining that all 19 MLAs of the party are intact, Sangma said there is no sign at all that the MLAs want to join other parties. “They are comfortable where they are and are committed to play the role of constructive opposition,” he stated.
Earlier, the National People’s Party (NPP) leader Sniawbhalang Dhar had also made a similar claim that over eight to nine Congress MLAs have approached him to join the ruling party.
Asked, he said the BJP and other parties are just trying to create perception and that is it.
On the allegation that the MLAs are not happy with the CLP leader, the spokesman said, “This is another attempt to spread rumours to disintegrate Congress.”
Meanwhile, Sangma said if the present state government is doing something which is against the interest of the people the opposition is not going to keep quiet or just be silent spectator.
