The opposition Congress has demanded the state government to take measures to curb the rise in crimes against women and children in the state.

The demand was made during a candle light vigil organized by the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahilla Congress (MPMC) at Khyndailad on Friday.

“We assembled here to protest against increase in crimes against women and children in the state,” MPMC president Joplin Scott Shylla said.

Urging the state government to take steps to prevent such crimes from reoccurring, Shylla said, “It is like every month and every week that crimes agains women is happening. This has to stop and this government has to do something about it as they cannot idle in their offices and let this thing go by like as if nothing is happening.”

“They should look into this matter seriously and stop the crime against women from increasing day by day,” she demanded.
