One civilian was killed while 20 BSF seriously injured in road mishap
KHLIEHRIAT: In a tragic mishap, one civilian was killed while 20 Border Security Force personnel sustained serious injury this evening.
The incident occurred at Umtyra in East Jaintia Hills District at around 3.30 pm this evening when a bus bearing registration number AS 05 C 2034 went off road and fell in a gorge (approximate 100 feet).
The bus is requisite by the 93rd Battalion of the Border Security Force and was boarded by 20 BSF personnel and 2 civilian including drivers and helpers.
On receipt of information of the accident, police swing into action in rescuing the injured BSF personnel and shifted them to Khliehriat Community Health Centre (CHC).
Most of them received serious injuries in their bodies while one person identified as Jogto Gogoi succumbed to injury at the CHC.
“All 20 BSF personnel and 1 civilian were shifted from Khliehriat CHC to NEIGRIHMS,” informed I/c SP of EJHD Lakador Syiem.
He also expressed his gratitude to the doctors and staff of Khliehriat CHC for their prompt treatment of the injured and also to the Government ambulances and ambulances from NGO’s, Dorbar Shnongs and from cement companies who responded to their call for help.
According to the eyewitness, the cause of the accident was the overspeeding of the bus.
