OIL’s CSR Initiative hosts sali crops cutting programme in Dibrugarh
The Oil India Limited (OIL), through its flagship CSR Agriculture Development Project implemented by the Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS), organized a sali crops cutting programme at Sarupathar Bongali Gaon IN Dibrugarh district on Friday. The event highlighted OIL’s long-standing commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural livelihood enhancement in Upper Assam.
The programme was attended by Madhurjya Barua, Executive Director (HR & Field Admin), OIL, Bhairab Bhuyan, president, OIRDS & Executive Director (Engineering Services), Debashis Bora, vice-president, OIRDS & Chief General Manager (Field Admin) and other OIL and OIRDS officials, along with beneficiaries of the project
This initiative, active since the early 1990s, showcases OIL’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by farming communities amidst urbanization, industrialization, and shrinking cultivable lands.
The project operates on a two-year cycle, adopting organized Pathar Parichalana Samitis (PPS) in select villages. Farmers receive high-grade seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural equipment and field training sessions conducted by agricultural experts from the Agriculture Department, Assam.
The program covers 227 villages across Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Charaideo, and Sivasagar districts. Nearly 11,000 hectares under cultivation.
The sali crops cutting programme serves as a critical evaluation step in assessing the productivity of paddy cultivation in the adopted villages. Conducted under the guidance of agricultural experts, the event helps to measure paddy yield and project success, identify areas for improvement in the project and formulate strategies for future agricultural interventions.
This initiative is a testament to OIL’s focus on fostering agricultural resilience and strengthening the socio-economic foundation of its operational areas. By addressing the needs of farming communities, it ensures sustainable development while mitigating the adverse impacts of industrialization and land scarcity.
