The National People’s Party (NPP) has made significant strides in the recent Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Nagaland, securing five crucial wards in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC). The results, announced on June 29, 2024, highlight the growing support and trust the NPP enjoys among the electorate in Nagaland.

Among the victorious NPP candidates are Nikali Sumi Chophi, who emerged successful in Ward No. 10 of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), and Jonathan Yepthomi, who claimed victory in Ward No. 23 of the DMC. In Kohima, the Party’s stronghold was further solidified with Vizokhoto George Kirha winning in Ward No. 14, Aneü Khaming in Ward No. 16, and Medoviu Martin Suohu in Ward No. 19 of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).

National General Secretary of the NPP, James PK Sangma, who oversaw the ULB elections on behalf of the Party, expressed his happiness over the election results. He remarked, “These victories are not just wins for the Party but for every citizen who envisions a progressive Nagaland. We remain committed to this vision, ensuring that our development initiatives are inclusive and impactful.” He extended his profound gratitude to the Nagaland State President and all the NPP MLAs in Nagaland, State Executive Members, Mahila and Youth wings, Minority cells, and all party members who worked tirelessly during the ULB election campaign.

Nickey Nongkhlaw, the National Youth President of the NPP, emphasized the importance of youth involvement in politics and community development. He highlighted the crucial role played by the youth wing of the Party during these elections. “Our victories in these five wards are a clear indication of the positive change and new energy that young leaders bring to the table. We are committed to fostering a political environment that encourages youth participation and harnesses their innovative ideas for the greater good of the Party and the state of Nagaland,” he stated.
