Nongpriang landslide: body of second victim recovered
The body of the second victim of a landslide at Nongpriang village in East Khasi Hills District was retrieved on Friday morning.
Informing this, deputy commissioner SC Sadhu said two bodies have been recovered from the place of occurrence. The first body was retrieved yesterday and the victim has been identified as Phisar Nongrum.
“Teams from both fire and emergency services, SDRF and officials from the sub divisions are there in the location and they are trying hard. However, there is a big boulder caused by the landslide so they are removing it so that other two bodies are recovered. Effort is still going on,” he said.
The deputy commissioner also informed that ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to each of the victims’ next of kin will be transferred immediately.
On May 30, at least four persons died after they were trapped when two houses were completely washed away by a devastating landslide at Nongpriang village.
The victims have been identified as Phisar Nongrum (75), Kynmaw Syngai (70), Benti Riahtam (60) and Master Lumlang Riahtam (16).
