Nazareth Hospital offered new surgery with early recovery for Slip Disc patients
In what could be viewed as a sigh of relief for people suffering from various spins problems, the Nazareth Hospital, Shillong announced the launch of the Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Surgery (UBE) for spinal surgery assuring early discharge from Hospital and early recovery of patients.
This was informed in a press conference held at the conference hall of the Nazareth Hospital, Shillong addressed by Dr Frankie Shadap Siangshai MS MCh Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosurgery, Nazareth Hospital in the presence of Dr Gordon Rangad MS, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Nazareth Hospital, Dr Jayanta Kr Das MS, Senior Consultant, Department of General Surgery, Nazareth Hospital and Noreen Thomas, Administrator, Nazareth Hospital.
Dr. Siangshai informed that the introduction of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Surgery at Nazareth Hospital marks a new era in minimally invasive spinal surgery for spines problems like slip disc, Spondylosis and spinal stenosis. He also informed that previously for spine problems they have to do open surgery for treatment and management of the problems where the patient has to spend more time in hospital, late recovery from surgery, high price of medicines for managing the pains from the surgery amongst other drawbacks.
Informing on the advantages of UBE over open surgery, Dr. Siangshai said that this advanced technique offers numerous benefits, including reduced recovery time, minimal scarring, and enhanced precision, significantly improving patient outcomes.
On cost of UBE surgery, Dr. Siangshai said that either the cost will be cover totally by MHIS or the patient will have to pay Rs. 20,000 or Rs. 30,000 more only.
Meanwhile, Dr Jayanta Kr Das MS, Senior Consultant, Department of General Surgery informed “through advance laparoscopic surgery we have been able to conduct surgery for cancer ailments of oesophagus, stomach, rectum and colon where there is less pain and early recovery and we also offered gasless laparoscopic surgery for gall bladder and ovary.”
