  • National Highway 6 closed for vehicular movement in East Jaintia Hills

    Due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past one week, the National Highway No 06 has suffered massive damages following landslides in various parts along East Jaintia Hills District compelling the district administration to close down vehicular movement along the high way to prevent any loss of lives and properties.

    According to East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, the highway has been damaged at multiple locations across the district especially from Nongsning to Ratacherra stretch.

    A section of NH-6 near the Lumshnong Toll Plaza has also been washed away.

    One light motor vehicle went deep down into caved portion of the highway in Lad Brishyrnot followed by six wheelers trucks.

    The Superintendent of Police, Khliehriat has been tasked by the DC to depute police personnel onsite to prevent vehicles from crossing the submerged road from both sides until the water level recedes to normal in coordination with the Block Development Officer, Saipung C&RD Block.

    Members of public are hereby advised to avoid unnecessary travel along that stretch.

    In cases of emergency also, they should observe utmost caution while travelling through NH 06 in that section till further update about the restoration of the road.

    Thousands of commuters and hundreds of vehicles are stranded along the highway and efforts are being made by the district administration to provide the stranded commuters some snacks and waters.
