MPHRC slammed govt for imbroglio in NEIGRIHMS
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Peoples’ Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has strongly slammed the ongoing imbroglio in the Cardiology Department at NEIGRIHMS which led to the death of 55-year old woman who could not be operated due to the absence of cardiac devices.
Criticizing the Government for its failure in its duty to ensure that NEIGRIHMS authorities should not obstruct the enjoyment of the right to health of every persons, “their claimed of non-availability of surgical equipment’s has constitute a threat to the availability, accessibility and acceptability of quality health care system and such failure is in breach of India’s international human rights obligations and domestic standards” said Dino D.G. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.
“While the right of everyone to the enjoyment of highest attainable standard of physical health still remains a distant goal, we underscored the Government of its obligations to take deliberate, concrete and targeted steps towards full realization of the right to health as enshrined in various human rights law and standards” said MPHRC.
“The Government must properly investigate in the matter to improve the health of individuals and populations which underlines the importance of justifiability of the human rights and the modern public health approaches for the realization of the right to health both in policies and practices” said MPHRC.
