Mother & minor girl met watery grave in Shnongpdeng after boat capsized
In a tragic mishap, one mother and her eight year old daughter drown after the wooden boat in which they were travelling capsized at Wah Umngot river, Shnongpdeng village.
The village lately has become one of the famous tourist spots for its crystal clear water and it is located along Indo Bangla Border under Amlarem Sub Division West Jaintia Hills district.
Residents of Shnongpdeng informed there were four persons travelling in a boat and they went for fishing on Wednesday morning.
The mother identified as Julias Lymba (27 years) and her daughter Tariang Lymba (8 years) lost their life after the boat capsized as they were swept away due to the strong current. Two others villagers managed to escape after the boat in which they were travelling capsized at a place known as Lad Lad (rapid).
Both of them were swept away by the strong current. Villagers went for searching before the arrival of police from Dawki Police Station, but till filling of this report, their bodies could not be recovered. Rescue operation is going on.
