Meghalaya strengthens healthcare: Third sub-divisional hospital in Pynursla
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of Pynursla Community Health Centre (CHC) to a Sub-Divisional Hospital in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh and other officials at Pynursla CHC, East Khasi Hills District. The First Referral Unit (FRU) at Pynursla CHC was also inaugurated during the event.
This will be the third Sub-Divisional Hospital in the state, following the ones at Jengal Sub-Division and Jarain PHC.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities across Meghalaya. He noted that upgrading Pynursla CHC to a Sub-Divisional Hospital will enhance access to quality healthcare for local residents and neighboring areas. Highlighting the government’s focus on health infrastructure, he said, “Health facilities are a priority for the state, ranking second in budget allocation after education and infrastructure.” He also urged public cooperation in overcoming health challenges and enhancing healthcare services.
The Deputy Chief Minister lauded the efforts of healthcare workers and encouraged residents to register for the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and link it with Aadhaar to avail themselves of government benefits. He urged people to discard superstitious beliefs and adopt positive practices for development.
Health Minister Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasized the upgraded hospital’s role in providing comprehensive healthcare, including In-Patient and Out-Patient services. She highlighted the newly inaugurated FRU, which will offer round-the-clock specialist care in Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Pediatrics, reducing the need for long-distance travel for medical care.
Dr. Lyngdoh expressed optimism about the upcoming blood storage unit at the hospital, stressing the government’s focus on reducing infant mortality and ensuring safe childbirth. She urged Village Health Councils and ASHAs to promote institutional deliveries and improve immunization coverage to achieve 100 percent. She also underscored the importance of deworming for children and called on the community to utilize government healthcare services.
The event was attended by Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Sampath Kumar, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. JS Momin, SDO of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division EL Warjri, Rangbah Shnong of Urksew Wahpathaw A Lyngdoh, and other dignitaries.
