Meghalaya State Commission for Women seeks report from police on stabbing case
The Meghalaya State Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the case wherein a woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband.
In a press statement issued here, the Commission stated, “Though the woman has not filed a complaint with the Commission in relation to this case, the Commission has asked for the Police Report from the concerned police station and is awaiting for the report before taking other course of interventions.”
The Commission further stated, “At this point, we strongly feel that the Rule of Law must prevail. The law applies to all irrespective of their social status.”
The Commission has met with the victim, her daughter and the authorities from Civil Hospital.
It may be mentioned that a local court had recently remanded Shillong-based businessman Suresh P Singh to seven days in police custody for allegedly stabbing his wife Poonam Singh.
Soon after the incident their daughter disclosed that her father would often abuse his wife.
