    Nineteen more persons have been tested positive for coronavirus while Assam many as 38 others have recovered from the infection on Monday.

    Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said the 19 new cases include 17 in East Khasi Hills (15 civilians, 1 Air Force, 1 BSF), 1 in East Jaintia Hills and 1 in West Garo Hills.

    “With this, the total number of active cases in the state has increased to 543,” he said. 

    He also informed that 38 patients including 26 BSF troopers and 2 civilians have also recovered taking the total number of recoveries to 173.

    East Khasi Hills is the worst hit district with over 441 active cases that include 245 BSF jawans, 170 civilians and 26 armed forces personnel.

    There are 50 in Ri Bhoi, 16 in West Garo Hills, 14 in East Jaintia Hills, 10 in West Jaintia Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills, 3 in West Khasi Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills, 2 in North Garo Hills and 1 in East Garo Hills.

    South West Khasi Hills however registered zero cases of coronavirus.

    Meanwhile, a total of five persons have so far succumbed to the dreaded disease.
