The state government has approved the proposal to relax the upper age limit for entry into government services by five years.

Announcing this decision after a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “(We) have decided to have age relaxation for entry into government services.”

“The age relaxation has been increased from 27 to 32 years and for Scheduled Tribe (ST) another five years will be added and that is 37,” he added.

Sangma however maintained that job recruitment by the home (police), forest guards, home guards and civil defence and certain posts in the prisons department have been exempted from today’s decision.

“The point for uniform posts that are there which require a slightly more physical work will have same age limit as before and there will be no change in that,” he stated.

The state cabinet has also approved the policy for Village Health Councils of Meghalaya.

Sangma informed that this is being done with the objective of focusing on the health sector at the village level.

He also said that the VHCs will be created along with coordination and cooperation of the headmens, rangbah shnongs and nokmas. “The VHCs will focus mainly on important health issues that are there in the village level…,” he added.
