    The state on Thursday recorded 8 COVID-19 related deaths, pushing the death toll to 1,133 in the state.

    According to Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 5 were reported from East Khasi Hills district and 1 each from Ri Bhoi Hills district, West Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills district.

    Dr War said the state has also detected 576 new COVID-19 cases.

    These include 247 in East Khasi Hills, 90 West Garo Hills, 71 Ri Bhoi, 63 West Khasi Hills, 37 West Jaintia Hills, 11 East Jaintia Hills, 11 South Garo Hills, 11 South West Garo Hills, 8 East Garo Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.

    Dr War also informed that 510 persons have recovered from the viral infection.

    Of these, 191 East Khasi Hills, 82 Ri Bhoi, 62 West Garo Hills, 55 West Khasi Hills, 53 South West Khasi Hills, 34 West Jaintia Hills, 12 East Garo Hills, 7 South Garo Hills, 5 South West Garo Hills 5 East Jaintia Hills and 4 North Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 67,592 COVID-19 cases out of which 5,574 are active cases, 60,885 recovered and 1,133 deaths.

    With 2,183 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 810 cases and West Khasi Hills with 765.

    There are 566 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 541 Ri Bhoi, 267 South West Khasi Hills, 135 East Jaintia Hills, 84 North Garo Hills, 82 East Garo Hills, 74 South Garo Hills and 67 South West Garo Hills.
