Fifteen more persons have been arrested in connection with the Charbatapara incident, chief electoral officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor informed on Thursday.

He said that so far, 31 persons have been arrested for their involvement in the incident.

“Raids are going on at multiple places,” Kharkongor said.

On Tuesday night, there was a group clash between opposition AITC and NPP supporters at Charbatapara village under Phulbari constituency in West Garo Hills.

Yesterday, 16 persons were picked up by the police.

Kharkongor had earlier informed that out of 131 named accused persons, 25 have already been bound over by police. The remaining will also be bound over in order to prevent such incidents in future.

A flag march was also conducted in the area on Wednesday as a show of force.

“All trouble mongers shall be made to execute bonds for good behavior. Authorities are keeping a close watch over the situation,” Kharkongor had said.
