The state police have warned to take stern legal action against anybody involved in spreading misinformation about the ongoing vaccination drive against COVID-19 in the state.

“If any person/organization is found committing such act, legal action will be taken against them as per law,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He also said that the general public are advised not to spread any misinformation regarding vaccination through any medium.

The SP informed that the Meghalaya High Court had passed an order in this regard on June 23.

The order had stated, “In the event, there is any attempt made by any person/organization to spread misinformation regarding the efficacy of vaccination amongst the people of this State, the concerned authority of the State will immediately step in and proceed against such person/organization in accordance with law. The concerned authority of the State shall also bring such instances to the notice of this Court”
