The state police has issued an advisory requesting citizens not to install any screen sharing apps which are used by fraudsters to dupe many financially.

According to East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger, it has been found that many victims are being financially duped by fraudsters who pretend as Customer Care Operators and ask the victim to install screen sharing apps.

He said once the victim shares the code, the perpetrator gets full access to the victim’s device and immediately withdraws various amount of money from the victim’s account.

In this connection, the SP said the public are advised to never install any screen sharing app when asked to do so over a phone call by any Customer Care/Help Desk Representative of any entity. Banks/E-commerce entities etc and never ask to install third party applications for screen sharing.
