    The death toll due to COVID-19 has increased to 104 after one more person succumbed to the viral infection on Thursday.  

    The state has also witnessed a surge in the new cases after 109 more persons have tested positive.

    These include 51 from East Khasi Hills district, 42 West Garo Hills district, 4 Ri Bhoi district, 4 South Garo Hills district, 3 East Garo Hills district, 2 East Jaintia Hills district, 1 North Garo Hills district, 1 South West Garo Hills district and 1 West Khasi Hills district.

    He said the new cases also include one police personnel from South Garo Hills and 1 health worker from East Garo Hills.

    Of 60 persons who recovered from the viral infection, Dr War said 36 are from East Khasi Hills, 9 West Garo Hills, 5 East Garo Hills, 4 West Khasi Hills, 2 Ri Bhoi, 2 South West Garo Hills, 1 West Jaintia Hills and 1 South Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 10,979 COVID-19 cases out of which 801 are active cases, 10,074 recovered and 104 deaths.

    Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 325 positive cases, West Garo Hills 138, Ri Bhoi 103, East Garo Hills 90, South West Garo Hills 32, East Jaintia Hills 29, West Khasi Hills 26, South Garo Hills 24, West Jaintia Hills 22, North Garo Hills 11 and South West Khasi Hills 1.

    “Till date, swab samples of 2,25,659 persons have been tested of which 2,14,680 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

    There are 60,406 entrants from outside the state.
