Nomination papers of four candidates were rejected after they were found invalid during the scrutiny of nominations on Wednesday.

Of this, three candidates were from the National People’s Party (NPP) and one from the United Democratic Party (UDP). The four candidates include three males and one female.

“4 nominations were found invalid as they were deemed as dummy candidates,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor said.

The rejected candidates are Stonely Shylla of the UDP from Khliehriat constituency, and three NPP candidates –  Ailad Bhoi from Jowai constituency in West Jaiñtia Hills district, Hambertus Nongtdu of Sutnga-Saipung constituency and Violet Lyngdoh of Khliehriat constituency of East Jaiñtia Hills district.

The CEO said the scrutiny process was conducted successfully in all the 12 districts across 60 Assembly Constituencies.

He said post scrutiny against 379 nominations filed, 375 nominations were found to be valid which include male candidates accounted for 339 and 36 female candidates.
