Meghalaya HC disposes of PIL on dome collapse incident
The Meghalaya High Court on Monday disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) into the recent collapse of the central dome over the proposed new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong Township.
In its order, the two-member bench said, “Since it is for the State to take appropriate action against the builder and the matter pertains to apparently faulty construction or design, the Court does not deem it proper to rush into the case immediately and without allowing the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with law.”
“Accordingly, the present petition, apparently filed in public interest and not for publicity, is disposed of with liberty to any public spirited individual to raise the issues again, in the event they are not appropriately dealt with by the administration,” it said.
The order was also passed after the PIL filed by Pawan Sharma revealed that there is a high-powered committee which has been put in place to report on the causes and, possibly, suggest the remedial measures that may be taken.
